Starzen Group (Starzen Co., Ltd. and its consolidated companies) recognizes the importance of the protection of personal information and is committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the following policy. However, Starzen IT Solutions Co., Ltd. is excluded from Starzen Group as defined in this policy, because it has established a separate “Personal Information Protection Policy.”

1. Compliance with Relevant Laws, Regulations and Guidelines, etc.

Starzen Group complies with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines, etc. and handles personal information properly.

(1) Purpose of Use

In order to ensure the smooth operation of the business, Starzen Group uses the personal information it has appropriately acquired for the following purposes:

  1. notification of information on our products, new products, services, and events;
  2. shipping ordered products (including gift products) and invoices, etc., and handling enquiries;
  3. conducting surveys and promotion activity in connection with our various operations and reporting the results;
  4. responding to enquiries regarding the “Customer Consultation Desk,” the “Personal Information Contact Point,” etc.;
  5. management and provision of producer history information;
  6. application procedures for the recruitment of employees, provision of information, and other uses necessary for recruitment activities;
  7. communication necessary for our business, performance of contracts, business negotiations, and management of business partners’ information;
  8. management of shareholder information and introduction to our services, etc.;
  9. exercise of rights and performance of obligations under the Companies Act and other laws and regulations, and creation of records under the relevant laws and regulations; and

(2) Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

The Starzen Group does not provide personal information to any third party without obtaining the data subject’s consent in advance, except in the following cases:

  • cases required under laws and regulations;
  • cases in which there is a need to protect the life, wellbeing, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the data subject;
  • cases in which there is a special need to improve public wellbeing or promote healthy child development and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the data subject;
  • cases in which there is a need to cooperate with a national government organ, a local government, or a person entrusted thereby with performing the functions prescribed by the laws and regulations and obtaining the consent of the data subject is likely to interfere with the performance of those functions; or
  • cases subject to other reasons specified by laws and regulations.

(3) Joint Use of Personal Information

Starzen Group may share the personal information it receives from customers within the following scope:

  1. Details of personal information
    Name, address, telephone number, date of birth, e-mail address, and other items necessary for the purpose of use.
  2. Scope of joint users
    The Company and affiliated companies listed in the Company’s annual report.
  3. Purpose of joint use
    Purposes described in "1. Purpose of Use" above.

(4) Entrustment of the Handling of Personal Information

Starzen Group may entrust the handling of personal information to third parties within the scope of the purposes of use stated in (1) above. If we entrust the handling of personal information to a third party, we carry out a strict investigation regarding the protection of personal information by the third party, implement a confidentiality agreement, and supervise the third party as appropriate.

Starzen Group will take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent the leakage, loss, or damage of personal information that it handles, and to ensure the safety of personal information. 5. Procedures for Requesting Notification of Purpose of Use or Disclosure, etc.

In accordance with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information”, where we receive a request for notification regarding the purpose of use of personal data that Starzen Group hold or a request for disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, erasure or suspension of provision to a third party, etc. of such personal data, we will, upon verifying the identity of the data subject or his/her representative in advance, promptly respond in accordance with laws/regulations and with following the procedures bellow:

    After checking the above documents, we will send you a written response by postal mail.
  3. Where We Cannot Respond Your Request
    In such events as prescribed below, we may not be able to respond to your request , in which case we will notify you with the reasons:
    • where we cannot confirm that the request for disclosure is made from the data subject himself/herself;
    • where the prescribed request form is incomplete;
    • where the requested information does not fall under the category of “Retained Personal Data”;
    • where the handling fee is insufficient or not enclosed;
    • where the power of representation cannot be verified for a request by a representative; or
    • where there is a reason stipulated in laws and regulations.
